The Sunapee Area Watershed Coalition
Minutes of the 3/2/06 Meeting
Meeting Summary 3/2/06
Vicky Boundy called the meeting to order at 7 pm.
Deane Geddes mentioned the report on Chalk Pond in Newbury prepared by Robert Wood. Suggested that all read.
Jack Sheehan (Little Lake Sunapee Protective Assoc.) said that the Highway Department has reduced the salt being spread on the east, north and west sides of Little Lake Sunapee. Said that State spreads 250 pounds of salt per lane mile each half hour.
Bill Thomas said he had copious amounts of data given to him by Robert Wood of LSPA, on Little Lake Sunapee and Pleasant Lake. Bill had taken some of the data and made a chart, which indicated the increase of salt in these lakes.
Vicky said that LSPA had only received 300 returns of 8,000 sent of the recent survey sent out. Disappointing results. Said that a student at Colby Sawyer, Kerry, was compiling the results and would have some graphic illustrations in GIS format.
Vicky said that members of the Steering Committee had met with the towns of New London, Sunapee & Newbury with mixed results, but mostly quite positive.
Terry Dancy read a letter from the new London Planning Board concerning a development in the King ridge area. The new proposed development is called Harbor View. Bill Thomas suggested writing an “Opinion” piece for the newspaper.
Vicky gave an update of LSPA’s DES Pilot Grant (approved). Among the first tasks: Assessing and reviewing town protective regulations.
Terry Dancy gave a brief description on the “build out” analysis in the watershed, with the key elements of the regulations. Said there were no zoning regulations specifically about stormwater, relative to maintenance, culverts, and permitting. No model exists for towns.
The large group divided up into the three subcommittees (Land Use, Education, Water Quality) to continue with their respective tasks.
Welcomed newcomers: Mr. & Mrs. Thompson from Mt. View Lake.
Adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
