NH DES Guide on Nonpoint Source Pollution

I. Welcome and Introductions – Jennifer Palmiotto
Members introduced themselves, providing a brief background and shared their interest
in watershed protection.
II. Project Background / Review of Committee Notebook- Jennifer Palmiotto
JP distributed notebooks to committee members and went through the contents. JP
described the specific steps in the preparation of the watershed management plan,
noting that the process is set up to ensure a thorough analysis, while focusing on local
priorities. Two missions of Committee members are to direct the process toward local
priorities and to communicate with the groups they represent.
III. Committee Logistics
Peter Stanley said that he would find some one to replace him on the committee since
he would be unable to participate. Meeting Schedule: Meetings were set for the 4th
Tuesday of every month at the Newbury Town Hall except for April (we will have a
watershed tour). June Fichter offered to serve as Vice Chair. There were no other
volunteers to serve as Chair or Co-Secretary. Action Item: The Committee needs to fill
these vacancies at the next meeting.
IV. Watershed Management Planning Process and Plan Development - Jennifer
Palmiotto
Planning Process was reviewed. For example, development of potential contamination
source inventory, review of water quality data, review of local regulations based upon
UVLSRPC work, ranking of threats, development of recommendations, and plan
creation. Committee presents plan to watershed communities for adoption. Two
missions of Committee members are to direct the process toward local priorities and to
communicate with the groups they represent.
V. Field Trip
Committee will go on a field trip in April to visit specific areas of concern within the
watershed. Action Item: Committee members should bring ideas to February’s meeting
for sites we should include.
VI. Reading Material for Next Meeting.
Action Item: Read the material under Tab 2 in your committee notebook.
